Mike Hawkins once said, “You don't get results by focusing on results. You get results by focusing on the actions that produce results”. ChiefMentor programs focus on the actions (ie, Customer Focus, Human Resources, Work Systems, Organizational Effectiveness etc.) that produce the final Business Results.
It is important that the results should be used to create and balance value for your key stakeholders—your customers, workforce, stockholders, suppliers, and partners; the public; and the community.
By creating value for your key stakeholders, your company builds loyalty, contributes to growing the economy, and contributes to society. To meet the sometimes conflicting and changing aims that balancing value implies, organizational strategy explicitly should include key stakeholder requirements. This will help ensure that plans and actions meet differing stakeholder needs and avoid adverse impacts on any stakeholders.
The use of a balanced composite of leading and lagging performance measures offers an effective means to communicate short- and longer-term priorities, monitor actual performance, and provide a clear basis for improving results.
Tony Robbins famously said, ‘There is no such thing as failure. There are only results’. That is the professional way, and we know the concept of ‘failure’ and ‘success’ are emotional. Chiefmentor programs pave the way to see results analytically, and based on the actions that produces results, like, customer focus, human resources, operational effectiveness, market penetration, etc.
However, most human beings take results to the heart - especially financial results. ChiefMentor programs remind the participants that whatever wonderful approaches they deploy in their departments/divisions, they must show their effectiveness in the form of results.
People who produce good results feel good about themselves. When you realize that your levels and trends in performance results separate you from your competitors and other comparative companies. Your success will be revealed in the number and percentage of partnerships formed with key customers, Number and/or percent of customers who will give a positive referral, Percentage or money amount in new business that is based upon referrals from existing customers, etc.
Many managers say, “I don't really care who gets their inspiration from where, it's the end results that count”. However excellent executives ensure that the employees get motivated from their own work in the company, and the results are consistent.
“However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results”. - Winston Churchill
Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. In most companies, uncommon results are attained in systematic way.
Excellent executives ensure that they present the best picture externally, and present the facts correctly. They don't undercut communications about business realities by overplaying good news. They make sure that employees feel good about and connected to their company's business results. Your ability to preoperatively interpret your company’s business results has a great effect in employee motivation.
Excellent executives know one secret: Success requires first expending ten units of effort to produce one unit of results. Your momentum will then produce ten units of results with each unit of effort.
Therefore, excellent business results call for long-term planning and a never quit attitude. For example, customer loyalty requires continual improvements over several years in all measures of customer satisfaction, that leads to growth in business from preferred customers, reduction in defecting or lost customers, increased loyalty to your products/services, customers giving your company more business and giving less to competitors ,etc.
Business results are the culmination of actions, that had many questions. What do you want to get done? In what order of importance? Over what period of time? What is the time available? What is the best strategy for application of time to projects for the most effective results? Even best results face political criticisms.
Politics is nothing more than an informal, unwritten way of getting things done in an organization. Politics is and will always be a part of an organization, because people are involved. The more people there are, the greater the politics. Excellent executives manage by facts, they have logic for their actions and their participative style of management takes care of political imperatives.
Business results are a great way to introspect, and to evaluate what went right (WWR), and what went wrong (WWW). As you know, Excellent executives don’t wait for the final business results to plan their coaching and mentoring activities. However, business results are effective real time studies to coach, mentor and guide.
The productivity, timeliness, and quality are the three major categories in which operational measures are evaluated. One must conduct in-depth analysis on Reliability, Timeliness of Delivery, Order processing time, Errors or defects, Product lead time, Inventory turnover, Costs of quality, Cost saving, etc. How significant or insignificant your results are? Compare the data with competitors and industry averages.
Excellent executives use all three types of networking opportunities to spread the positives about their company’s business results: Operational, Personal and Strategic. Operational networking involves cultivating the relationships with people you need to accomplish your job. Personal networks allow you to meet a diverse group of like-minded professionals.
Strategic networking is the toughest for most managers but most essential for business leaders. Excellent executives look beyond their industry to share ideas about best practices in management, learn new approaches and keep close tabs on developments in business and technology. It helps managers to see the bigger picture and create their own visionary approach based on the business results.
“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
